Plastic Waste Collection Drive 2025

Date: 29th June, 2025
To combat the growing menace of plastic pollution, a Plastic Waste Collection Drive was organized. The primary objective was to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic on both human health and the environment. Students were encouraged to collect plastic waste from their homes, localities, and surroundings. The collected plastic was segregated and sent to a designated recycling facility where it underwent proper cleaning, sorting, and processing. Non-recyclable plastic was disposed of responsibly, ensuring minimal environmental impact. The drive not only reinforced the importance of recycling but also promoted collective community efforts towards waste management.

Teaching for Sustainability: Lesson Plan Challenge

Date: July 2025
To integrate sustainability into formal education, the Nature Club introduced the Teaching for Sustainability: Lesson Plan Challenge to equip future educators with the skills to incorporate environmental themes into classroom teaching. Student teachers designed learner-centric lesson plans on topics such as population and environmental sustainability, effectively linking curricular content with real-world issues. The initiative resulted in improved classroom engagement and demonstrated a significant enhancement in the use of ICT tools in teaching. It also ensured that sustainability education is not treated as an isolated concept but embedded within everyday teaching practices, thereby nurturing environmentally conscious future generations.

Poster Making

Date: 13th August, 2025
Save Water Awareness Campaign and Poster-Making Activity, organized in collaboration with the Soroptimist Welfare Association. The activity aimed to sensitize student-teachers to the importance of water conservation in alignment with sustainable development goals. Students creatively expressed environmental messages through posters with themes like “Save Water, Save Life” and “Every Drop Counts.” The activity not only enhanced awareness but also fostered creativity, critical thinking, and personal responsibility towards water conservation. Feedback indicated high engagement, with a majority of participants reporting improved understanding and motivation to adopt water-saving practices.

Peer Teaching Initiative: “Save Water”

Date: 18th to 30th August, 2025
The Nature Club organized a Peer Teaching Initiative titled “Save Water” aimed to create awareness about the concept of water footprint by educating students on invisible water usage. It also highlighted the contributions of notable environmentalists like Arjun Malligavad, known as the Lake Man of India, and Rajendra Singh, the Waterman of India. As part of the initiative, student teachers conducted model lessons in various internship schools, sensitizing young learners about water conservation through the inducto-deductive method and the use of interactive presentations.

Paper Bag Making and Distribution Initiative

Date: 23rd August, 2025
As part of promoting eco-friendly alternatives, the Nature Club implemented a Paper Bag Making and Distribution Initiative. College students actively participated in repurposing old newspapers into durable and reusable paper bags. These bags were then distributed free of cost to local vegetable vendors, addressing their dependence on single-use plastics. This hands-on activity empowered students to take on environmental leadership roles while also offering a practical and immediate solution to vendors. The initiative played a crucial role in encouraging behavioral change, as both students and vendors began to recognize the importance of adopting sustainable alternatives in their daily practices.

E-Waste Collection Drive 2025

Date: 4th September, 2025
The Nature Club conducted an E-Waste Collection Drive, culminating on 4th September, 2025, in collaboration with Mahatma International School and the Thane Municipal Corporation (Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth). The drive successfully collected and diverted 100 kilograms of electronic waste, including calculators, laptops, and chargers, from landfills.

Bin the Battery Project 2026

An ongoing collaboration with Threco under the “Bin the Battery” initiative ensured proper disposal of batteries. This activity was also done in collaboration with Mahatma International school and was aligned with the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) movement, promoting responsible individual and community action. As a result, the initiative helped prevent hazardous materials such as lead and mercury from contaminating soil and water, while also encouraging resource recovery and environmental sustainability.

District Eco-Sustainability Championship 2025

The college proudly participated in the District Eco-Sustainability Championship, a platform to showcase sustainable practices and innovations. Our student-teachers represented the institution with presentations, models, and posters focusing on eco-friendly teaching aids, waste segregation methods, and green alternatives. Their creativity and environmental consciousness were well appreciated by the jury and fellow participants. The event fostered inter-institutional learning and collaboration for a greener future. We received appreciation and a A+(Gold) Grade for our contribution towards the community.

Socio-Legal Study on ‘Teachers’ Awareness and Perception of Environmental Laws and Citizen Rights’

Socio-Legal Study on ‘Teachers’ Awareness and Perception of Environmental Laws and Citizen Rights’ was undertaken by Dr. Geeta S. Thakur. This study added a research-oriented dimension to the Nature Club activities. The study highlighted teachers’ moderate awareness levels and emphasized the importance of integrating environmental laws and citizen rights into the curriculum, reinforcing the role of educators as agents of environmental change.

Carbon Footprint Calculation and Reduction Strategy

Date: 3rd September, 2025
The Nature Club organized a Carbon Footprint Calculation and Reduction initiative with the objective of aligning institutional practices with SDG 13: Climate Action. Students utilized digital tools such as Google Forms and AI-based platforms to assess both individual lifestyles and campus-related environmental impact. Through this data-driven approach, they identified key areas requiring intervention, including reducing electricity consumption and exploring renewable energy alternatives. This activity not only enhanced analytical and technological skills among student teachers but also contributed to the institution’s long-term vision of achieving carbon neutrality and meeting accreditation standards.

School Campaign: “What is Tourism? Why Does it Matter?”

Date: 1st to 8th September, 2025
The Nature Club conducted a school outreach campaign across institutions such as CKT School, Empyrean School, and Mahatma International School, aiming to build awareness about responsible tourism among young learners. B.Ed. student-teachers designed and implemented interactive lesson plans that introduced concepts such as eco-tourism and adventure tourism with a focus on minimizing environmental impact. They also emphasized responsible practices like maintaining cleanliness and preserving heritage sites, while introducing unique themes such as solar eclipse tourism to spark scientific curiosity.

Zero-Waste Cooking Initiative

Date: 10th September, 2025
The Nature Club conducted a Zero-Waste Cooking initiative on, to promote sustainable consumption practices. Students actively participated in preparing innovative dishes using food components that are typically discarded, such as vegetable peels, stalks, and seeds. The activity culminated in a potluck where participants shared these eco-friendly recipes, fostering a sense of community engagement and awareness. Additionally, the initiative was extended through digital outreach on social media platforms, inspiring a broader audience to adopt zero-waste practices. This experiential activity reinforced the importance of minimizing food waste and encouraged sustainable lifestyle choices.

Eco-friendly Diwali Greeting Card Making Activity

An Eco-friendly Diwali Greeting Card Making activity was organized to promote creativity and celebrate the festive spirit in a sustainable manner among student teachers. The activity encouraged participants to design and create greeting cards using eco-friendly materials. The greeting cards were later donated to Bharat Vikas Parishad for their “Diwali Sweets” initiative for the army jawans posted at the border.

Rural Tourism Awareness through Social Media Campaign

To expand its outreach beyond classrooms, the Nature Club launched a digital campaign promoting rural tourism and responsible travel through engaging social media content. Instagram reels such as “Escape to Konkan’s Soul” showcased the cultural and natural richness of Sindhudurg, including mango orchards, beaches, and traditional festivals, while “Discovering Rural Roots” highlighted village crafts and livelihoods from Tamil Nadu. These digital narratives emphasized mindful travel choices aligned with SDG 12, encouraging audiences to support local artisans and conserve natural resources.

These activities collectively contributed to:

  • Enhancing environmental awareness and sustainable practices among student-teachers.
  • Promoting experiential learning through campaigns, audits, and creative expression.
  • Developing a sense of civic responsibility and environmental stewardship.
  • Encouraging future educators to integrate sustainability into teaching-learning processes.

The Nature Club activities for 2025–26 successfully integrated awareness, practice, creativity, and research to build a strong foundation of environmental responsibility among student-teachers. These initiatives empowered future educators to act as catalysts for sustainable development and responsible citizenship in their professional and social contexts.
